is there a 12 step program for me?
i have been "training" for my next marathon, and have even tried to change my eating habits.
sodas?
gone.
sweets?
going.
alcohol?
going.
but, i have found one thing i cannot give up.
cheese fries
if these are on your menu, i'm ordering.
unlike my post about the greatness of ceviche, and where you could find some good dishes, there is no such thing as bad cheese fries, so i can't make a list of my favorite places. i mean if its there, i'm eating them.
but, we can dj lance it. you know, break it down.
the foundation:
the french fry. ideally, you have a thick cut fry that is crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. a skinny mcdonald-like fry will do also as long as it meets the first criteria. not a big fan of the cottage fry, which is what a place like snuffer's, hut's and koppe bridge all have. it's a fry with the skin left on. while on a baked potato yummy! and as its own appetizer, delectable, on a cheese fry platter. . . .it can be a deal breaker!
and, as in the case of sonic, weinerschnitzel, or any fast food establishment who tends to have a chewy greasy fry, a tator tot substitute is perfectly fine, and highly recommended!
the topping(s):
of course, your basic cheddar cheese is all that is needed, however, to make it truly great you may add any or all of the following:
bacon
chives
jalapenos
and. . . .
chili
keep in mind that adding chili now makes your dish an official "chili" cheese fry dish which is way more complex than just the cheese fry.
and finally, the piece de resitance:
the ranch dressing. . . .and lots of it.
word of advice, you've already ordered a dish that, on average, contains 1,500 calories. don't skimp on the ranch. and by all means, don't order fat free!

From someone who certainly has an eating disorder...I'm not a fan of cheese fries, but clearly this is your passion! We met with a gentleman from the Pew Research Center at work today, I think he would really find your chili fry research very interesting!
I think the cheese fry or the chili cheese fry is a fine dish while putting your body through such rigorous training - or even not. It is a perfectly balanced meal in itself - protein (bacon), carb (potato), dairy (cheese), and not one but two greens (chives & jalapenos). And the ranch dressing? Well, that is just a little piece of heaven. Eat on!
i'm a big fan of marlee's logic...
i have a cheese addiction, which does not help with trimming my waistline not matter how much running or wii fit i do. the cheese intake is probably the very reason i had to text you at 4:30am...ill ill ill...
